WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL
WEEK THREE
How familiar are you with the word, “sin”? If you’ve been around the church, you’ve probably heard that word before – possibly in reference to a bad thing that someone does or maybe even just applied to humans in general.
This past weekend in JHM, we learned that sin essentially means “missing the mark.” Sin is anything that misses the mark of God’s plan and desire for our life. This includes anything that we do that we know we shouldn’t (lying, cheating, stealing), and anything we don’t do that we know we should (not standing up for others, letting someone else take the blame for our mistake, etc.).
Sin is an important part of the Gospel because it’s what makes us need a savior. This week, reflect a little bit on the idea of sin and how you’ve seen it in your life

PREPARE YOUR HEART:
Start by focusing your mind on Jesus. Find a quiet, comfortable place where you can be free from distraction. Take a few deep breaths and ask Jesus to open your mind and heart to what He has for you today.
READ:
Read these three passages:
Romans 3:23; 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9
REFLECT:
How have you seen sin in your own life? What does sin look like for you?
How do you think God feels about you when you sin? Does His love for you change?
We’ve mentioned before that sin separates us from God, but why do you think that is?
PRAY:
Finish your time by focusing back on Jesus. Spend a couple minutes talking with Him – what’s been great? What’s been tough? What are you grateful for?
