WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL
WEEK TWO
In today’s world, the word “God” can mean a lot of different things. If someone were to say “I believe in God,” the natural follow up question to that statement is “which God do you believe in?” Even as Christians, we can sometimes get confused about what we mean when we say “God” – who are we describing, and what are the characteristics of this God?
This past weekend in JHM, we talked about who God is. We dove into a conversation about how God is the creator of everything, that He is perfect, and that He is three persons in one nature. Use the guide below to reflect on truths from this weekend and spend a little bit of time with Jesus today

PREPARE YOUR HEART:
Start by focusing your mind on Jesus. Find a quiet, comfortable place where you can be free from distraction. Take a few deep breaths and ask Jesus to open your mind and heart to what He has for you today.
READ:
Read these three passages:
Psalm 147:5; 1 Chronicles 16:34; 1 John 4:8
REFLECT:
This weekend we learned that God is always “good.” What does that mean? And how have you seen evidence of that in your life, the lives of others, or in history?
1 John 4:8 mentions that because God is love, then getting to know God means getting to know what love is. What do you think are the qualities of perfect love? How do you think getting to know God affects the way we love other people?
Focus on this truth today:
God created everything, including you. Before He formed the universe, He already knew you and chose to love you. God chooses you for eternity – the depths of His love are too great to understand fully. We have done nothing, can’t do anything, and don’t need to do anything to earn or deserve this love, we simply exist within it.
PRAY:
Finish your time by focusing back on Jesus. Spend a couple minutes talking with Him – what’s been great? What’s been tough? What are you grateful for?
