HOW TO READ YOUR BIBLE

WHAT IS THE BIBLE?

The Bible is God’s Word and our source of truth as followers of Jesus. The Bible is a roadmap to help us navigate life, a compass to help point us in the right direction, and a love letter from Jesus telling us about how much He loves and all the things that He has done for us and wants to do for us.

WHY DO WE READ THE BIBLE?

We read the Bible because it contains truth about Jesus, us, and life. The Bible tells us more about who Jesus is and what He’s done for us. It also gives us direction on how we should live our lives, gives us things to hope for and be encouraged by, things to avoid, and has answers to some of life’s biggest questions. Reading the Bible is one of the ways that we grow in our faith and grow closer to Jesus.

WHERE SHOULD I START READING?

Start with books of the Bible that you know you can finish. Some good books to start with are the books of 1 John, Ephesians, or Philippians.

SOME TIPS FOR READING THE BIBLE.

-You don’t have to read an entire book in one sitting
-Try reading a chapter, a paragraph, or even just a couple sentences a day.
-As you read, read the passage a couple of times. Different things might stand out to you as you read it!
-Underline, circle, or highlight words or phrases that stand out to you as you go.
-Write down any thoughts that you have in a journal as you read.
-The things that were happening in the world when the books of the Bible were written add meaning to the text. Do a little bit of research on the background of whatever book you are reading!
